The Barn

A leading German roastery with a long history, The Barn sets a high standard by sourcing producer first single origin coffees and requiring an internal score of 86 points or higher before a lot is roasted. At its best the roasting reads light, sweet, and very clear with place easy to follow, and labels keep farm, process, and lot immediately visible. A network of Berlin coffee bars carries that precision in service.

Background

Born in Berlin in 2010 under founder Ralf Rüller, THE BARN shaped a distinctly rigorous take on origin driven coffee in Germany. Early on they pushed single origin menus when blends still dominated, built long term producer partnerships, and trained a generation of baristas through public cuppings and exacting service. Roasting sits in a narrow, light register aimed at definition and sweetness, and a network of Berlin coffee bars channels that discipline into everyday cups.

Panel evaluation

Cups read very clear with layered sweetness and a well drawn acidity. Variance is low from day to day, and the style holds its shape across seasons. Processing skews classic, with occasional specials adding breadth without overshadowing variety or place. Packaging is quiet and functional, and producer, variety, process, and harvest are easy to find on the bag and online, so what you taste aligns cleanly with what you read.
