Manhattan
Manhattan has become a steady, internationally recognised voice in modern light roasting. Co-founder Esther Maasdam’s strong competition pedigree shows in the calibration and execution, while transparent, lot specific storytelling pairs with precise roasting for clean, place expressive cups. Experimental releases are handled with control rather than noise, yielding season after season consistency and clear influence across the specialty market at home and abroad.
Background
Founded in Rotterdam in 2017 by Ben Morrow and Esther Maasdam, Manhattan was shaped by a deep competition pedigree and a producer first mindset. Morrow won Coffee Masters in both New York and London and has multiple national titles, while Maasdam is a four time Dutch Latte Art Champion and Dutch Cup Tasters Champion. Recently Morrow has left the company to pursue a new venture; Maasdam continues to lead a light, clarity driven approach with a stated ambition to work with like minded producers and push boundaries forward.

Panel evaluation
Cups read clean and sweet with a clear, well placed acidity, and flavors hold their shape as the cup cools. Classic washed profiles show tidy structure, while headline releases with experimental processing bring vivid fruit in a controlled frame so variety and place remain easy to read. Packaging and product pages keep the producer visible with concise details on variety, process, and lot, which makes it simple to connect flavor to farm. The overall impression is confident, modern Rotterdam roasting with a steady through line season to season.
