Kaffibrugghúsið
Led by Sonja Björk Grant, a long-time specialty pioneer, SCA educator, and championship judge, Kaffibrugghúsið pairs a producer first, single origin program with light, measured roasting that yields clean, sweet cups and a clearly drawn acidity. Labels and product pages are transparent and lot specific, so origin is easy to read. As a training hub in Reykjavík, with seminars, certifications, and cuppings, the roastery has set standards in Iceland and influenced the wider Nordic scene.
Background
Founded in Reykjavík in 2014 by Sonja Björk Grant, Kaffibrugghúsið is a micro roastery and training hub built around producer first sourcing and clear, origin led roasting. Before launching Kaffibrugghúsið, Sonja helped start Reykjavík Roasters and was central to the early specialty movement in Iceland, shaping buying, roasting, and service standards long before they were common. Through years of teaching and championship judging across the Nordics, she helped set expectations for transparent communication, careful brewing, and light roasting that highlights sweetness, clarity, and place. The roastery continues that work today, operating as a wholesale base and a knowledge center for seminars, certifications, and hands on training.

Panel evaluation
Cups read clean and sweet with a calm, well drawn acidity, especially on classic washed lots from East Africa and Central America. Naturals appear with restraint and keep fruit inside a tidy frame so variety and place remain easy to read. Labels and product pages make producer, process, and harvest simple to find, which helps connect the cup to the people behind it. The overall impression is steady, education driven roasting with clear origin lines.
