Founded in Gothenburg in 2018 by Johan Ekfeldt, Gringo Nordic builds on experience that helped shape the region’s specialty scene. Before Gringo, Johan co founded Johan & Nyström, a company that brought modern specialty to a wide audience in Sweden and Finland through direct relationships at origin, lighter roasting, open cuppings, and education; many baristas and roasters who passed through that ecosystem went on to influence other projects across the Nordics. At Gringo, Johan and his partner Pernilla extend that impact with a producer first, lot specific approach, drawing on long ties at origin including work at their Colombian farm Finca La Tierra. The style stays in the light range to highlight sweetness, clarity, and place, with classic profiles at the core and selective processing experiments used to add range without losing structure.

Gringo’s roasts sit in the light to medium light range, with cups that land sweet and tidy. Classic washed coffees draw clear lines and good structure, while the experimental side brings heady fruit and perfume that at times can sit a little in front of variety and place. Packaging is plainspoken and complete, with producer, farm, variety, process, and harvest easy to read on the bag and expanded online, which builds trust from first look to first sip. Across seasons the range feels welcoming for daily drinking yet still offers limited lots that reward a more focused session.
