Background

Founded in Gothenburg by Matts Johansson, da Matteo grew from pioneering Italian-influenced coffee bars in the 1990s into one of Sweden’s key specialty roasteries. The stated purpose is simple and public: we want more people to drink good coffee. Over time the focus shifted to producer-first, traceable single origins roasted with restraint, while a small network of historic city coffee bars showcases that style and serves as meeting places for the local community. In March 2025, da Matteo won Nordics Best Roaster at Nordic Coffee Fest, underscoring the team’s current form and craft.
