Coffee Collective

A long standing leader of Nordic style, Coffee Collective pairs producer first sourcing with annual transparency reports and published farmer payments that helped set the industry standard. The team’s competition pedigree includes co founder Klaus Thomsen winning the World Barista Championship in 2006, and their education work raised the bar early. Multiple coffee bars in Copenhagen and Aarhus carry that philosophy into daily service. Cups are consistently clean, sweet, and place expressive across seasons, and the combination of impact, rigor, and execution merits our highest award.

Background

Founded in Copenhagen in 2007 by Peter N. Dupont, Casper Engel Rasmussen, and Klaus Thomsen, Coffee Collective helped define the modern Nordic approach through direct relationships at origin, transparent pricing, and a café roastery model that puts information and taste on equal footing. The team’s competition pedigree and education work raised the bar globally; Klaus Thomsen won the World Barista Championship in 2006 and Casper Engel Rasmussen won the World Cup Tasters in 2008, while annual transparency reports and publishing farmer payments set a template many roasters now follow. Today the company operates multiple bars in Copenhagen and Aarhus plus a bakery, and is B Corp certified, continuing to pair light, clarity first roasting with long term producer partnerships and public reporting.

Panel evaluation

Coffee Collective roasts light and precise, giving cups that are sweet, clean, and clearly structured with articulate acidity. Washed profiles from Ethiopia and Kenya often lead with florals and citrus, while Central and South American lots bring red fruit, cocoa, and cane sweetness for balance. Packaging and communication are exemplary: producer, variety, process, harvest, and lot are easy to find on the bag, and the webshop expands with payment and transparency details that build trust. Extraction is stable across filter and espresso and the style holds its shape season after season, with several tastings delivering standout clarity and balance.
