Hot & Honorable
Black & White
Founded by US Barista Champions Lem Butler and Kyle Ramage, the team brings serious craft and clear communication, and when single origin lots take center stage the cups are clean, sweet, and well separated. Execution across seasons and in the coffee bars is polished, but alignment with our Nordic frame is partial.
Background
Founded in the Raleigh area in 2017 by US Barista Champions Kyle Ramage and Lem Butler, Black & White grew out of competition roots with a simple idea: pair exciting coffees with approachable service and education. The philosophy blends producer first sourcing with a wide spectrum of processing styles, from classic washed and natural to boldly experimental, alongside clear brew guides and classes that lower the barrier for curious drinkers. Roasting and retail are based in Raleigh, and the brand continues to expand its presence across the Triangle with coffee bars that showcase both everyday and competition level coffees.

Panel evaluation
Roasts read light to medium light with a sweet core and tidy finishes. Classic lots show good structure while experimental processes often lead with vivid, fruit forward aromatics; when brewed with care the cup stays composed rather than chaotic. Packaging and product pages are modern and information forward, with producer, farm, and process easy to find, which supports learning and makes the range feel welcoming even when flavors are bold.
